Petra Lewis--wins the Houston Livestock Show for 1979. Excitement came rushing through the huge crowd as Petra's hog was named Champion of the Breed. Everybody knew that Springlake-Earth had a terrific chance for the Grand Champion title. Petra showed her hog the next day with nervousness as the Springlake following stood at the sides wishing her the best. Judge for the show, Mr. Dave Huinker, said that this was the premier barrow show of the nation and that the Crossbred hog is the winner. Cheers were shouted as Springlake-Earth cried out tears of excitement. Miss Petra Lewis has showed for nine years. She has received ten trophies in these nine years and was named the Lamb County Gold Star Girl in 1977. Petra has held offices in both 4H and FFA.

Keith Clayton--is the Grand Champion recipient of the Ft. Worth Livestock Show for 1979. Keith also had a Crossbred hog that showed for Champion of the breed. Thrills rushed down the spines of all Springlake-Earth participants. Mr. T. D. Tankersley, judge of the Jr. Show, proudly announced the winner of the Show was Keith Clayton. For the overall Grand Champion, Keith showed his hog against the Grand Champion of the open show. Deep nervousness fell through the crowd during this time. Finally, after judging the two top entries, Keith received the highest honor of Grand Champion of the Ft. Worth Livestock Show. He has shown under Melvin Chisum for four years. He has held offices in FFA.
