FCCLA News

I would like to announce a few things about an organization with which everyone is familiar-FCCLA-formerly known as FHA.

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is one of the largest career and technology student organizations in the United States. This organization was established in 1945. FCCLA encourages personal growth and leadership development in teens through family and consumer sciences. Any student through the twelfth grade, who is taking or has taken a course of family and consumer sciences can become a member if they so desire. Each year over 200,000 students join FCCLA, with over 10,000 chapters in fifty-three state associations including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Students who participate in FCCLA may participate in various projects related to the family, careers, and community involvement.

The 2000-2001 officers of FCCLA are:

President - Sheena

Vice President - April

Student Council Representative - Becky

Secretary - Jessie

Historian - Isabel

Springlake-Earth attended a FCCLA leadership meeting in Muleshoe on September 18th. Those who attended the meeting were Sheena, Becky, Isabel, Andrea, Veronica, Jessie, Fabiola, and Tyler.

At this meeting we had the privilege to meet other students from different places. We had fun playing games that involved getting to know one another. There were three different workshops. In the first workshop we talked about what FCCLA meant to us, and what kind of fundraisers we could do. The other workshops involved leadership techniques. The FCCLA members wanted to let everyone know more about our organization and our involvement with the school. The executive officers will be attending a leadership workshop in Albuquerque, N.M. in late October.

Isabel - Secretary
