On Sunday, November 21, 1999, a benefit luncheon was held at the Springlake-Earth School cafeteria in honor of Mr. Jim Dutton, long-time SEHS Special Education teacher. The menu consisted of bar-b-que brisket, sausage, pinto beans, potato salad, bread, and a variety of fruit cobblers. The community turned out in full force, and the fund-raising effort was very profitable.
Many people helped to make the day a success. Coach Kent Bode organized the event and kept everything running smoothly. Norma Barden, Eva Frietze, and Diane Hill all helped in the cafeteria that day. S-E faculty, administrators, and staff helped prepare the food and cleaned up the cafeteria afterward. Members of Leadership Earth helped serve and clean up. Members of the community also contributed to the event. The Earth Lions Club contributed money to buy the food, Hoyt Glasscock helped cook the brisket, and Carlos Duran cooked the sausage that was donated by Larry Gray and the S-E FFA. Lowe's in Earth and United in Littlefield all donated loaves of bread for the meal. The luncheon would not have been possible without the support of these individuals and businesses.
Jim Dutton has devoted over 30 years to public education.
